Le Cri du Silence (The Scream of Silence)

Le Cri du Silence
(The Scream of Silence)
For our Art Direction course, we had to interpret what "Silence" was in our perspective and what it meant to us. Me and my group chose to interpret "The Scream of Silence" in which a individual who is deeply stressed or going through any type of anxiety or anger is always mute, never talks about it, until one day all of that chaos comes rushing out and with it letting out a "scream". The idea was that even though the person's mind was full of noise and chaos, nothing came out of their mouth until they couldn't keep it in any longer, and we wanted to show each step of that process all throughout the course of this path.
A proposal by Lea Atallah (me), Ingred Bassil, Layal Gharib, Lynn Khalife, Maria-Pia Nachef, Aya Sodan.
A whole process of making different models and sharing a lot of different ideas got us to this story and this concept. We had to experiment with multiple materials, to finally get the results we wanted.
The process that is presented consists of 4 steps.
Fist of all we have the "CALM" which is represented by a clean white elevation. That façade represents the individual's physical state, where we can't see what is going on inside of their mind. it is the bones and the skin that is all around it.
After that comes the second step, which is the "CHAOS". It's the entrance through that individual's mind and taking a look at all of his thoughts and anger. We wanted that step to  be quite suffocating for the "passenger" going through that path. Th usage of multiple layers of 'clingfilm' helped us get this "suffocating" feeling and helped us throughout the process as well. And we also used metal fibers to create the thoughts of that said individual. Different partitions are their to create somewhat of obstacles, but at the same time lead the way.
The third step coming is the "LIBERATION". This step was represented thanks to multiple factors. The 'clingfilm' layers get thinner and thinner, which gives light the capability to get through more, therefore giving more transparency, which is also consistent throughout the floor. Another factor is the metal fibers that will progressively untangle and go in a ascendant direction, and that represents the scream. Between these fibers, little by little, light will start to appear to represent the comfort and ease of the silence as well to lead the way through our partitions or obstacles that are opening up the passage more and more as the "passenger" walks.
The final step is the "SILENCE". The passage is all opened up. The partitions are barely there and completely transparent. The metal fibers and the little lights finally go in a straight direction. The "passenger" just like our said individual can finally breath, and is finally at ease. It is "The Calm After the Storm".
